What is it?
Now that your pup has mastered the basic on-leash commands, it is time to expand his world and work on obedience even when off-leash. This course will reinforce the commands you and your dog learned during Basic Obedience training – and will continuously raise the bar of expectations preparing you both for real-world situations. The goal is to train your dog to listen anytime and anywhere – even off-leash running through an open space full of squirrels!
What to expect
During the Advanced Obedience classes, you will be reinforcing the skills learned in Basic Obedience by increasing the attention necessary to complete the task while also learning new and more challenging commands to add to your repertoire. The duration, distance, and level of distraction will be increased for each command, visual cues will be introduced, and focus will be placed on praise in order to eliminate the treat rewards.
If your goal is to have a better-behaved dog in public, do therapy work, earn an AKC Canine Good Citizen certification, or work on better manners during greetings, this is the class for you and your dog!
There is a required time commitment outside of class to ensure a successful training program. Please be advised that you need to work with your dog for brief training periods throughout the week – totaling at least 30 minutes per day – in order to have a successful training experience.
Private sessions are held in your home by appointment only. All private sessions are held in two-hour blocks. All dogs who meet the following criterion are welcome to schedule our private Advanced Obedience classes:
